We all know fast food is quick, easy, tasty, and cheap. For those reasons, it may even be the bane of many college students’ diets while they cram for exams. It’s the convience that gets us. While they work for getting a full course meal, they are also good for just grabbing a quick snack when you’re in a rush. The major component of the fast food experience is definitely the french fries. It’s the side of every meal, or the main course of your snack. Let’s think about it. Each fast food chain has their own specialty when it comes to the main course: Arby’s for sandwiches, Chick-fil-A for chicken sandwiches and wraps, Burger King, McDonald’s, Five Guys, or In-N-Out for burgers. They all have one staple despite their differences: the french fries. The filler that works its way into every combo. But who has the best? It’s my opinion that BK fries are by far the crispiest and most enjoyable. McDonald’s fries just seem to be soggy all the time. Chick-fil-A has some amazing tasting waffle fries, but they lack the salt that gives ‘em that zing. And why is Arby’s doing away with straight fries? They are moving exclusively to curly fries with all those spices – which, if you like them, are amazing. But it definitely sets them apart from the other fast food chains. Feel free to give your opinion in the comments!

1. Reduce disposable income spending and divert to pay off high interest debt. You should NEVER maintain balances on credit cards, this is a sign of financial stupidity. It’s not weakness, it’s dumb to believe you have money at your disposal in the form of a 20% loan from a credit card.

Reducing disposable income means eating out less, purchasing less unnecessary items such as news clothes or shoes. It means downgrading your cable package, internet, movies to movie rentals, and prime steak to hamburgers.

2. Don’t try to sell your house for 2004 prices. Too many people are still in a house that they can barely afford because they are trying to sell it for more than anyone will buy it in today’s market. If you can live without selling then you should wait 2-3 years before downgrading the home. Let it appreciate the value it’s lost over the past 2 years.

3. Find a cheap/free living situation. Move in with your parents/relatives/friends if you can. Students may want to skip the move out stage by a year until they find a job and have a nice savings cushion.

4. Additional jobs. If time permits find another part-time job. This of course, is not necessary if you reduce your spending per month. People who get part time jobs usually want to maintain standard of living and therefore work themselves to death to pay for it.

5. Increase your savings, and with those, invest in a low market. PRices for investments are at an all time low, you can easily double your money within a year in the right instruments.

6. Learn to cook at home, and how to shop better at the grocery store. If you buy real nutritious food from the grocery store and cook it at home instead of eating out, you will save a significant amount of money each week. Not only should your health improve, but you, along with your shopping list, can save hundreds.

7. Consolidate debt. There are services out there, some better than others, that will help you reduce your overall payments on debt per month by putting them all under the same roof. However, remember, the point of paying it off sooner is you in fact still shell out the same amount of money, but now part of it goes to an investment that accrues interest.

8. Reduce your energy footprint. Get more efficient lighting, shut off lights, electronics, computers when not in use. Shut off the extra fridge or freezer and save upwards of $500 bucks a year.

9. The government is going to create new programs to increase skills sets among workers. If you think you could benefit from a skill upgrade keep your eyes open for programs that are coming out. You’re bound to reap the benefits of some of the new programs but only if you pay attention to the latest offerings.

10. End your senseless addictions to Starbucks, cigarettes, and McDonald’s hamburgers, and start forming more sensible habits!

#1. One of the best ways to deal with your stress is to take up a hobby that will allow you to relax. Everything from knitting to training for a marathon and restoring a car can prove to be an effective way of learning how to manage stress.

#2. This way, you can do something productive and can keep your mind off of your emotions. In the middle of a such a hobby, you may even have an epiphany about what has been bothering you and will better able to deal with the situation when it next rears its head.

#3. Often, if you want to learn how to manage stress, you want to be able to take a step away from your feelings and thoughts so that you can see the bigger picture. Taking up a hobby is a great way to distract yourself so you are better able to deal with things.

#4. If you are stressed out, one of the best ways to how to handle stress is to tackle the problems, situations, or people at the root of the problem. For example, if you are worried about your child, it can help to talk to him or her. If you are stressed about turning in a project on time, it doesn’t hurt to ask for help, or, if the situation is intense, for an extension.

#5. If you have had an altercation with a loved one or some other individual, you should try contacting them. The above situations may not be completely fixed by your efforts, but they are sure to make you feel better.

#6. This is because you are confronting the issues that are upsetting you rather than hiding from them. Thus, if you are active in your problem solving, then you can take control of your emotions and learn how to manage stress.

#7. Taking time out to relax can clear the mind. Taking a pampering spa day at a health resort can do wonders to rejuvenate the mind and body.

If you were to ask a fitness trainer how to go about losing weight in certain parts of your body, you would probably get a reply to the effect that it is very difficult to control weight loss in exactly the way you want to. They would also tell you that you can’t lose weight only around your hips while keeping the flesh on your face intact no matter how much you try. No doubt weight loss takes place according to your bone structure and your genetic makeup, but with a little cleverness on your part, you could achieve weight loss in such a way that you begin to look better than ever even before you start to notice the difference on the scales. All you need to do is:

Tone your thighs: When you work on your thighs to strengthen your quads and hamstrings and get rid of that flabby look, you feel your clothes fitting better and you look great. You can do this with simple squats and lunges that you can do at home, for 10 to 15 minutes every alternate day. As the exercises become easier, use dumbbells to make them more effective and build your muscles. When you build muscle mass, you raise your metabolism and burn calories even when at rest.

Get rid of your love handles: The extra flesh hanging down your waist is a thorn in your flesh because it prevents you from wearing clothes that fit well and feel sexy. One way to get rid of your love handles is to stand in the center of an empty space, place an object diagonally opposite you, move towards it in two steps, bend down with your legs fully stretched and your feet anchored to the floor, pick it up, lunge in two steps to another corner of the space, and place the object that you picked up. Repeat this a few times with all the four corner until you’re out of breath and watch that flab melt away like magic in just a few weeks.

Tone your arms: Use dumbbells to tone up your biceps and remove the flab from your triceps. When your arms are tight and toned, you look slimmer and much better.
Get your daily dose of cardio: All said and done, exercises that get you panting and breathing hard are the best ways to lose overall weight fast and in a safe way. When your heart beat increases and you feel yourself sweating, you know you’re burning that fat away efficiently.

Eat sensibly: Weight loss is a simple calculation – if the number of calories you consume is less than the number you burn, you lose weight. So eat foods that are light on your stomach and light in calorific content. Drink lots of water and don’t skip meals. In fact, break up your daily requirement of food into five or six small meals instead of three large ones. This will boost your metabolism and prevent you from binging on food. And don’t deny yourself your favorite foods altogether; instead, limit your portions and how often you eat them.
